Ambassador Al-Qahtani, is a Qatari diplomat and international law expert. He has extensive experience in legal and international affairs, international organizations and diplomacy. Prior to his appointment as Chef de Cabinet of the President of the 66th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, he held a number of senior legal positions in and out of the State of Qatar. He advised on enormous legal issues, in particular public international law, international organizations, law of treaties and dispute settlements of international disputes, as well as human rights law and humanitarian law and the International Criminal Court. He served as Assistant Director of the Department of Legal Opinions and Contracts at the Ministry of Justice in the State of Qatar before his appointment as Deputy Permanent Representative and Senior Legal Advisor of Qatar Mission to the United Nations. He lectured on international law and law of treaties at the Legal and Judicial Studies Centre in the State of Qatar and an international arbitrator at the Qatar International Centre of Arbitration. He is also a member of the Arab Team on Transitional Justice in the Arab World.

Ambassador Al-Qahtani has a Bachelor of Law degree from Lebanon, Master degree in International Law from United States of America and PhD in International Law from the UK. He has written reports and published various articles in reputable international law journals on international law, international organizations and international courts and tribunals.
